A FEATURED BOOK
from the Whittington Press
text by Robin Llywelyn, images by Leslie Gerry
This stunning new miniature features brilliant color plates of architect Clough William-Ellis's picturesque resort village of Portmeirion in North Wales. The full page illustrations were printed using an A1 Epsom 7880 in 8 colors with archival inks onto Somerset velvet watercolor paper. Llywelyn, the architect's grandson, has written short text passages that draw on his earliest memories of the place that brought the Amalfi coast to North Wales: Battery Square; the campanile; the Gloriette; the ship aground called the Amis Reunis, frozen into perpetual harbor; the colorwashed facades sparkling in the sunshine of a summer afternoon.
The edition consists of 200 copies with a cost of $75.00
Oh, These Vanities
by Carmen Voss
We have recently acquired two copies of this tour de force suite comprising two volumes of text and plates, a portfolio of ten original paintings of historic hats, and a one-of-a-kind miniature hat.
The text and plate volumes measure 2 7/8" x 2 1/4" and are quarter bound in maroon leather and printed paper over boards. The 50 page text volume is set in eight point Monotype Garamont and printed by letterpress in three colors throughout, with seven tipped-in illustrations. The volume of plates includes an additional twenty-four tipped-in illustrations and one folded insert. Both were produced using archival quality acid-free materials, as were all parts of the suite.
The portfolio of original paintings measures 2 7/8" x 2 7/8" and is also quarter bound in leather. The dry-brush gouache images, done on Arches hot press watercolor paper, were selected as iconic designs in the history of hats and painted by Carmen Voss. Each is identified by style and date on the back and signed by the artist.
Last, but by no means least, each suite comes with a unique, hand-made miniature hat in its own hat box. The hats, measuring 2 1/4" in diameter, were made using a variety of brilliant fabrics, feathers, and ribbons. The hat boxes have ribbon ties and lables printed with the hat's title.
The suite is housed in a 3 3/8" x 3 3/8" x 4" drop-front and lid box with ribbon ties.
The edition was designed, printed and bound by Wm Erik Voss at the Lyceum Press and was limited to 15 unique copies.
